Discover Hong Kong - 买东西吃东西 (Day 1)

Just came back from a 3D2N trip back to HK. Official reason for the trip is to change my ID to the new smart ID card. The unofficial reason, of course, is to 买东西吃东西. Plus, doing alot of touristy stuff since I have a real tourist (my colleague Ivy) with me this time.

The trip started off with a freaking early flight at 6.45am, which means I have to wake up at freaking 4 o'clock in the morning. Our UA flight arrived at about 11am and guess what? We bumped into our student and her family at HK Airport! And we are staying in the same hotel! What a coincidence (can buy 4D)! We stayed at Stanford Hotel at Soy Street (豉油街), Mong Kok (旺角). Location is excellent (3 min away from 女人街 Ladies Market!) but like all hotels in Hong Kong, rooms are freaking small since land is scarce commodity.

And the view is not fantastic. Our room is facing some secondary school. (which accounts for why curtain was left closed throughout our stay).

We headed to settle my smart ID right away so all remaining time could be devoted to shopping and eating! (Though we managed to grab a new pair of sunglasses each and ate 鸡蛋仔 from the street side on the way out!)

Seriously speaking, I think that HK has changed for the better in many ways. People are in general nicer and more polite. And things are definitely more orderly. They even have freaking many signages to direct human traffic along underpasses in MTR stations!

I would never imagine HK having such things when I was still staying there!

After settling my smart ID at 尖沙嘴 (Tsim Sha Tsui), we headed towards Victoria Harbour. Weather was really hazy when we were there so the view across to HK Island is not as fantastic as it would have been.

And it was really windy. My hair just wouldn't stay still!

If your eyes are sharp and notice the red and green railing - yes, this photo is taken from the overhead bridge that is always shown in HK drama series. The one where everybody meets everybody.

We also found something every interesting on this bridge. There is this lift with a screen outside.

If you look closer, the screen shows what's happening in the lift (proudly modelled by Ivy).

So, no hanky-pankying in the lift, please.

We went to Granville Road and Harbour City to do some shopping. Bought a nice T-shirt from Granville Road at only S$12! Harbour City is more on the high end side but they have many brands that are not available in Singapore. Along the way, we had yummy mango sago from 许留山 too!

At night, we went back to Victoria Harbour for "A Symphony of Lights", a light show featuring some 30 buildings with colourful lights going on and off with the music. I only managed to catch the night scene before the show started as my camera was low on battery. The sky was still hazy, though.

Yah, so try to use some imagination to add beams of light into the pictures. =P

Dinner was settled in our hotel room with a take-away bowl of fish ball hor fun. You must be thinking that we are mad to eat fish ball hor fun in HK. It's quite different from what you get in Singapore actually. Fish balls and fish cake are all handmade, with more fish rather than flour. Very yummy!
