Discover Hong Kong - 买东西吃东西 (Day 2)

Slept like a log the previous night as we stayed up a grand total of 19 hours straight. Day 2 startetd off with nice nice breakfast at a nearby 茶餐厅. Ivy had 雪菜肉丝米粉 while I had 西多士 (French Toast). Yummy!

After breakfast, we set off for the Peak (山顶). Headed to Tsim Sha Tsui to catch a ferry across to HK Island. On the way, we passed by the HK Space Museum, which Ivy said looks like a rock in the middle of no where. I say it looks like a giant ping pong ball emerging from the ground.

We also passed by the Avenue of Stars (星光大道), where they showcase stuff from HK's movie industry.

I also got "up close and personal" with Tony Leung.

After all the side track, we finally reached the Star Ferry Terminal (天星码头), where we took the white and green ferry to Central (中环). The ride is freaking cheap, at HK$2.20 (S$0.50) for the upper deck. And Ivy got it even cheaper because the old man at the ticketing booth mistook her as a kid!

The tall buildings at Central greeted us as we arrived at HK Island. Central is the CBD area in HK, with loads of financial institutes.

From the ferry terminal, we took the "topless" bus (route no. 15C) to the Peak Tram Station. Very touristy...

On the way we saw many freaking tall buildings...

And freaking many cars...

This is the Peak Tram we took to get up to the Peak. This tram system has been around for many years but what we see today is upgraded and operated by computer, though the exterior is designed to look like the old, original one.

On the way up, the tram slowed down for a short while for photo-taking. How thoughtful!

Let me clarify - you are supposed to see more than just this. The view should allow you to see the Victoria Harbour AND Kowloon. Unfortunately, we could hardly see everything in HK Island due to the hazy weather. And the haze got worse when we reached the Peak. Could hardly see anything!

And that's me trying to act stylish with my new sunglasses (from Ladies Market) when there is no sun. So we turned our focus to the Lion Pavilion (狮子亭) for more touristy photo-taking. This is the place where you can get the "standard" view from the Peak you see from the tourism board collateral.

Off from the Peak, we had our encounter with the old old trams, only available in HK Island. These trams travel alongside with other vehicles on the roads.

Then, the unthinkable happened - we got lost! While trying to find a cafe which is known for its pork chop bun, we walked 2 rounds around Central. However, while finding our way, we got ourselves a "石本"仔糕. If you have watched the movie 新不了情, it is what Yuen Yong Yi asked for before she died. Apologies about the pic, coz we only remembered taking photo before we had the last bite.

We also grabbed a freshly baked egg tart during the search. So crispy! (Apologies again, had 2 bites before we took the photo)

After a half-hour search, we abandoned the pork chop bun plan. We took MTR to Wan Chai (湾仔) which is just 2 stations away for the famous wanton mee from 永华面家 (轩尼诗道89号). It's very very very tasty! The noodles are handmade and QQ 的! The wanton are quite big with prawn and pork. We also had fried fish skin. Very crispy!

After the late lunch (3pm), we headed back to Mong Kok for shopping. We got 老婆饼 for our families and colleagues from 恒香. It has the best 老婆饼 in HK! The main outlet is too far away, so we grabbed some from the down town branch at 弥敦道579号.

After that, we conqueored the entire 女人街, 花园街, and a shopping centre called 琼华中心. By the end of day 2, I bought a pair of sunglasses, 2 bags, 2 pairs of shoes, 1 t-shirt, a choker and a ring.

We also had the famous 臭豆腐 and red sausage from the streetside for dinner. It's hard to diet when you are in HK!

We also made it to Langham Place (朗豪坊), a freaking big 13-storey shopping mall next to Mong Kok MTR station. By the time we reached, the shops are mostly closed, but we were very impressed by the interior of the mall, with the lights shining on the ceiling and all.

Got a surprise on our way back to the hotel. We saw this mobile ice cream seller by the roadside. They used to have this kind of ice cream seller outside school when I was a kid. Talking about reliving childhood memories!
